![]() ![]() We now come to the fourth seal, the fourth horseman, and his ride of death by plague. The cumulative effect will lead to such conditions that if Jesus Christ did not intervene and cut short the time of trial, “no flesh would be saved” (Matthew 24:22). These seals, dramatically depicted by four horsemen, show the effect of false religion, war, famine and plague among the earth’s population in the days leading to the return of Jesus Christ.Įach of these seals represents powerful forces that devastate human life on the earth. In this booklet we have been examining each of the first four seals of Revelation 6. Tomorrow it could be another, even greater plague to sweep across the landscape, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Before that it was aids, which has killed tens of millions and even today is still decimating the populations of some countries. ![]() Before that it was ebola, which killed thousands in Africa before being largely contained. The most recent disease fear was covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), which killed hundreds of thousands and panicked millions more. While the first can lead to the death of thousands, the second can unravel the social fabric, disrupting the precarious balance of relationships essential for the stability of nations. ![]()

![]() Maybe if there was another season of Nightmares & Dreamscapes it'd make for a good premiere episode (especially if King adapted again, to help promote it), but if I was in charge of deciding which of his stories get turned into movies, it wouldn't be one I'd focus on, or even consider at all. Still, I hope anyone who broke this rule wasn't too harshly punished.Īnyway, it's a pretty good little thriller, more or less overcoming a pretty big hurdle: the original short story doesn't exactly cry out for adaptation. ![]() Not sure why he's so possessive about this particular movie, but I assume it has something to do with the fact that it's the first time he's adapted one of his stories for a theatrical feature since Pet Sematary*, which is kind of a big deal. It HAD to have the "Stephen King's" as part of the title, which is amusing because he didn't direct it and even Carpenter doesn't seem to mind if you refer to, say, John Carpenter's Vampires as Vampires (on the flipside, Wes Craven refers to New Nightmare as "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" when discussing it). ![]() ![]() A couple months back I got a press release for Stephen King's A Good Marriage that included specific instructions not to refer to the movie as simply "A Good Marriage". ![]() ![]() ![]() These stories were first published together in 1907 and this edition of the gentleman thief's very first adventures is the perfect place to start exploring his world of daring escapes, cunning disguises and ambitious heists. What follows are wonderfully entertaining and action packed stories that finish with a brief encounter with none other than Sherlock Holmes. In the opening stories, Lupin is arrested, only to engineer his own incredible escape. This edition of The Adventures of Arsène Lupin, Gentleman-Thief is translated from the French by Alexander Teixeira de Mattos and features an introduction by Emma Bielecki. These beautiful books make perfect gifts or a treat for any book lover. Part of the Macmillan Collector's Library a series of stunning, clothbound, pocket-sized classics with gold foiled edges and ribbon markers. He starts out as a gentleman-thief, though he prays on people much worse than he is, and does it with style and panache. A master of disguise, he steals from the rich, he outsmarts the police and he's generous to those in need. The inspiration for the hit Netflix show, Lupin, Arsène Lupin is charming, clever and bold. ![]() Print The Adventures of Arsène Lupin, Gentleman-Thief ![]() ![]() It can also be found in Amsterdamer Garamont, but compared with ATF’s version, the Amsterdamer glyph seems to dive all-in. Ember's End is a moving, fitting culmination of the journey. I truly believe that Smith has channeled that same spirit throughout the Green Ember series. Tolkien understood the unparalleled power of a good story to help us escape not from reality, but into reality. How does one put into words the truly bittersweet feeling that accompanies reaching the end of a great story-the simultaneous joy of seeing how it all turns out and the sadness of having to say goodbye? How does one explain that this children's novel is a true story (see Smith's wonderful author's note at the end), not because the rabbits in our backyards are out fighting with swords, but because it reflects ultimate reality? Smith is a big fan of Tolkien, and so am I. And we will learn about how the mind works, about its distinct but deeply related ways of tackling the same set of issues and coping with the same constraints. Brian Christian and Tom Griffiths describe how algorithms have been used for centuries. However, there is no reason that we cannot use algorithms in our everyday lives. Algorithms are inserted into computers and other forms of technology to solve problems. We will learn about the fundamental mathematical structure of these challenges and about how computers are engineered-sometimes counter to what we imagine-to make the most of them.
